Frederick Tope was
born in
Frederick County, Maryland in 1768 near
Harper's Ferry, and died in Union County,
Illinois, probably between 27 August 1842 [

1] and 30 December 1842

2].
He first married
Elizabeth (Betsy) Ann Grammer, daughter of John Jacob Grammer
and Elizabeth Hopper [note 3], in Kentucky
who was was born in in 1773 in Warren County, Kentucky, and died in
1837 in Union County, Illinois.
Elizabeth was received "in relation"
into the Clear Creek Baptist church on 27 March 1819 [
note
4].
On 3 June 1839 Frederick married Elvira
Grammer in Union County, Illinois, who was born in in 1816 [
note
5. After Frederick's death, Elvira married William Weon
2 April
1843 in Union County, Illinois [
note
6].
Frederick was appointed a traverse Juror
for the
1824 term of the Jackson County Court, therefore he moved to Jackson
County, Illinois before 1824 [
note 7].
Frederick and Elizabeth had 11 children:
- Joseph Tope was born in 1791 in
Kentucky, died before 1795.
- Susannah Tope was born in 1793 in
Kentucky was unmarried.
- Elizabeth Ruth Tope was
born in 1795
in Kentucky, and married Young John Vancil on 23 March 1839. Her second
marriage was to Prestley W. Taylor 16 March 1834 Union County, Illinois

- Malinda Tope was born in 1797 in
Kentucky, married Miles Coleman.
