    Barbara Tope, daughter of Frederick Tope and Elizabeth Ann Grammer, was born 9 October 1799 in West Co., Kentucky, and died 25 January 1878 in Mountain Green, Morgan Co., Utah. She married John Penrod in March 1815 in Union Co., Illinois. John was born in 6 July 1791 in Somerset Co., Pennsylvania, and died 5 August 1843 in Jackson Co., Illinois.

Barbara and John had eleven children:

1. Elizabeth Penrod was born 7 May 1816 in Union Co., Illinois, and died 3 October 1893 in Union Co., Illinois. She married John O'Daniel on 8 April 1833 in Union Co., Illinois.
2. Hannah Penrod born 30 August 1818 in Union Co., Illinois, died 13 June 1836; married Edmond Hagler on 19 February 1835. Edmond was born 13 September 1829 and died 15 December 1853.
3. Allen Penrod born 19 April 1821 in Union Co., Illinois, and died 23 March 1852 in Eldorado Co. California. He married Lucinda Zimmerman on 18 February 1847. She was born about 1829.
4. Jacob Penrod born 2 December 1823 in Jackson Co., Illinois, and died 17 July 1847 in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, during the Mexican War. He married Louise J. Grammer on 16 September 1844 in Cape Girerdeau, Missouri.
5. Emanuel Penrod born 3 September 1826 in Union Co., Illinois, died 9 April 1913 in Vallejo, Solano Co., California. He first married Cora Johnson on 9 March 1848. He then married Esperanna Sides.
6. John Grammer Penrod 15 March 1829 in Union Co.., Illinois, and Died: 18 February 1875 in Jackson Co.., Illinois. He first married Rachel Zimmerman on 28 December 28 1848 in Jackson Co., Illinois. He then married Mary Ann Gregory.
7. Oliver Penrod born 20 September 1831 in Jonesbero, Union Co., Illinois, died 3 September 1905 in Liberty, Weber Co., Utah. He married Anna Amelia Hubbard on 19 September 1854
8. Willis Penrod born 21 December 1833 in Jonesboro, Union Co., Illinois, died 27 May 1834.
9. William Henry Harrison Penrod born 20 November 1836 in Ana, Jackson Co., Illinois, died 19 September 1922 in Shelly Idaho. He married Lucene Bird Bybee (Beckstead) on 19 September 1854.
10. Singleton Penrod born 5 April 1839 in Jonesboro, Union Co., Illinois, died 9 December 1862 in Frankton, Utah.
11. Mary Elizabeth Penrod born 10 January 1842 in Murphysboro, Jackson Co., Illinois, died 22 September 1922 in Roy, Weber Co., Utah. She married David Bowman Bybee on 28 February 1856 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
