PAYTON LAFAYETTE COATS OBITUARY

  

PAYTON L. COATS

    Payton L. Coats died at his home in this city (Lilbourn Missouri), Saturday morning following a long illness from infirmities of old age. The deceased was born June 4, 1854 near Cabool (Bado) in Texas County, Missouri.

    August 25, 1878, the deceased was united in marriage to Minerva C. Hart. 

To this union 9 children were born. Four boys: E. C. Coats, Pensacola, F1a.; Jim Coats, Sikeston, Mo.; H. L. Coats, Madison, Ark.; Grady Coats, Parkin, Ark.;  five girls: Mrs. Effie Foster, Lilbourn, Mo.; Mrs. E.

P. Cockran, Tallulah, La.; Mrs. Anna Brower, Lilbourn, Mo.; Mrs. Harry Tope, Lilbourn,

Ivy, died at the age of 3-1/2 years.

    The deceased was preceded to the great beyond only a few months ago by his wife.

    The deceased came to this section of the country in 1908 and has been engaged in

farming around Lilbourn. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Services

were conducted at the home Sunday afternoon and interment was made in the Sikeston Cemetery.
